The superstar George Clooney and his wife Amal are donating their money where their morals are.
Last Monday, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) declared that it received a $1 million grant from the renowned couple, courtesy of the Clooney Foundation for Justice.
The announcement mentioned the violence sparked by a white supremacist gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia, this month as a sign of a greater need to fight hate groups.
“What happened in Charlottesville, and what is happening in communities across our country, demands our collective engagement to stand up to hate,” the couple said in a statement, per the SPLC. The nonprofit organization, founded in 1971, concentrated on preserving civil rights and fighting domestic hate groups.
According to Deadline, the couple added in a statement, “Amal and I wanted to add our voice (and financial assistance) to the ongoing fight for equality. There are no two sides to bigotry and hate.”
George and Amal co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice in 2016 “to advance justice in courtrooms, communities, and classrooms around the world.” because its organization, the foundation has partnered with UNICEF to open schools for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and sponsored the resettlement of refugees.
